IMPORTANT RESOURCES ON SB277
Template letter from school to parents:
From School Legal Services:
From CDPH: Communication to schools with 6th and 7th grade students
Due to SB 277, as 6th graders with previously filed PBEs advance into 7th grade, they will be subject to immunization requirements beyond just 1 dose of Tdap. To ensure that schools and parents are informed of this and to try to minimize the impact on 7th grade school staff next year, we are sending out the communication below to superintendents and principals of schools serving 6th and 7th graders, including the two attached documents.
Recent updates from CDPH as of May 5, 2016
To IZ Coordinators, Field Reps, and other LHD staff:
In an effort to better assist schools, we developed two versions of decision trees designed to help school staff responsible for checking immunization requirements. (See attached documents: IZDecisionTree_v1 and IZDecisionTree_v2). We kindly request that you to share these with school staff, and let us know if they find the decision trees helpful, which version they prefer, and what comments (positive and negative) they have about them.
We’ve also heard that some of you may not be aware that the California Immunization Handbook<http://eziz.org/assets/docs/shotsforschool/IMM-365.pdf> (aka “Blue Book”) has been updated. The 9th Edition of the Blue Book includes updates on:
· Senate Bill 277 and personal beliefs exemptions (page 7)
· Medical exemptions (page 8)
· Conditional admission (page 10)
We’d also like to bring your attention to some new and updated resources:
· Guides to Immunization Requirements for Child Care<http://eziz.org/assets/docs/IMM-230.pdf
K-12<http://eziz.org/assets/docs/IMM-231.pdf>
o Also in Spanish for Child Care<http://eziz.org/assets/docs/IMM-230S.pdf>
· Parents' Guides to Immunizations Required for Child Care <http://eziz.org/assets/docs/IMM-222ChildCare.pdf> | School<http://eziz.org/assets/docs/IMM-222School.pdf>
o Also in Spanish for Child Care<http://eziz.org/assets/docs/IMM-222S_ChildCare.pdf> | Spanish school version coming within 1- 2 weeks!
· No Shots? No Records? No School.<http://eziz.org/assets/docs/IMM-1167.pdf> | Spanish<http://eziz.org/assets/docs/IMM-1167S.pdf>
o This can also serve as a promo piece for ShotsforSchool.org! It will be available in hardcopy for order in June.
Thank you for your continued work to improve school compliance with immunization law!
