Scholarships & Research Award For nurses returning to college to obtain a School Nurse Credential there are Grants and Fellowships available through CSNO and NASN.
CSNO Scholarship-Due December 15 The California School Nurses Organization (CSNO) offers a Graduate Scholarship Program for school nurses working toward the completion of their credential in School Nursing. One award in the amount of $1,000.00 will be given annually. All requirements must be submitted electronically by December 15 of each year. Qualifications:
Possession of a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally-accredited college or university
A valid Registered Nurse License issued by the State of California
Current member of the California School Nurses Organization
Currently enrolled in a Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved School Nurse Credential Program or higher education learning program ( ie. Masters, Doctoral, and/or NP program). Submission Requirements:

Letter of Application (including a brief overview of what drew you into school nursing, unique skills and expertise you bring to this profession).
Documentation of enrollment in good standing in a school nurse credential program or program of higher learning. Evidence can be letter of recommendation from instructor or copy of university enrollment verification
Two letters of recommendation (one from immediate supervisor and one from someone knowledgeable about your school nursing work experience) or one additional reference if letter from instructor already in hand (see above).
CSNO Research/Publication Award-Due December 15
The California School Nurses Organization (CSNO) offers a Research/Publication Award to individuals completing research in the field of School Nursing and/or have published articles about school nursing in a professional magazine or journal. Promotion of research and published work is important to our practice and contributes greatly to our profession. In addition, it can give a special visibility to school nursing not usually seen by the general public. One award of $500.00 will be given annually. The recipients must be members of the California School Nurses Organization at the time of the application. All submissions must be postmarked on or before December 15. Rationale for study/hypothesis
Summary/discussion of results
Significance/application to the practice of School Nursing
Manuscript should be electronically mailed to CSNO Awards & Scholarship Chair with one hard copy mailed by post
Tool(s) used to gather data to accompany application, if applicabe (ie.; survey, Quick Neurological Screening Test, etc.) Please include in proposal.
Application Criteria for Published Article Related to School Nursing:
Copy/scan of complete published work as printed in journal or magazine showing your name as author including references electronically mailed to CSNO Awards & Scholarship Chair with one hard copy mailed.
Reference to the published article should be cited and acknowledgement given to the original source of any copyrighted material in the article. (Due to copyright laws submitted article will be reviewed, but not reprinted into any published work).
Award Presentation: The award recipient will be recognized at the CSNO Annual Conference. All applicants will be notified in January and the details of the presentation at the conference will be discussed at that time.
Member's Children Scholarship-Due December 15
New for 2017, CSNO is offering a $500.00 Scholarship for members' children who are pursuing nursing as a career or advancing their current nursing degree. One award per section will be given each year to children of CSNO members who meet the scholarship criteria. Scholarship winners will be selected by section leadership prior to submission to the State website. Winners will be recognized during the CSNO annual conference. NASN/American Nurses Foundation (ANF) Research Grant $5,000- Beginning or Experienced Research studies eligible for this funding focus on school nurse impact on health disparities, students with chronic health conditions, student safety, innovative models of school nursing practice; cost-benefit analysis of school nursing; or impact of school nurse activities related to social determinants of health on student health and education outcomes.
